Waiting on Wednesday

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they're books that have yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. If you're continuing with WOW, feel free to link those up as well! Find out more here.

Its difficult to believe that first week of 2020 is over, and now we're on second week! I had hopes that Darling Rose Gold, which I won in Goodreads Firstreads would arrive, but it hadn't. I also hope to hear from some people, which I hadn't yet so far, but still the year is brand new.

Two books I will feature today is one that is coming out on 14th of January, How Quickly She Disappeares by Raymond Fleischmann and another is The Second Sister by Claire Kendal. So both books are suspense/thrillers, and both deal with missing sisters as well as, surprisingly, have children in the stories! Enjoy the reads!

How Quickly She Disappears by Raymond Fleischmann
Published Date: January 2020

(From Goodreads)The Dry meets The Silence of the Lambs in this intoxicating tale of literary suspense, set in the relentless Alaskan landscape, about madness and obsession, loneliness and grief, and the ferocious bonds of family....

My proposition is very simple: I am going to ask you for three gifts, and for each gift you deliver, I will take you one step closer to Jacqueline.

It's been twenty years since Elisabeth’s twin sister, Jacqueline, disappeared without a trace. Now thirty-year-old Elisabeth is living far from home in a small Alaskan town. She's in a loveless marriage and has a precocious young daughter she loves more than anything but who reminds her too much of her long-missing sister.

But then Alfred, a dangerous stranger with a plan of his own, arrives in town and commits an inexplicable act of violence. And he offers a startling revelation: He knows exactly what happened to Elisabeth's sister, but he'll reveal this truth only if she fulfills his three requests.

Increasingly isolated from her neighbors and imprisoned by the bitter cold and her own obsession, Elisabeth can almost hear her sister's voice saying, Come and find me. And so she will, even if it means putting herself—and her family—in danger.

The Second Sister by Claire Kendal
Published Date: September 2017
(From Goodreads) An obsessive quest to solve the mystery of her older sister’s disappearance puts a young woman in mortal jeopardy in this taut, sophisticated novel of psychological suspense from the author of the “truly riveting” (New York Times) The Book of You. An intoxicating cocktail of loyalty and secrets, lies and betrayal, reminiscent of Rosamund Lupton’s Sister and Kimberly McCreight’s Reconstructing Amelia.

A decade ago, Ella Brooke’s older sister, Miranda, vanished without a trace. With every passing year, Ella has come to resemble more closely the sister she lost—the same dark hair, the same piercing blue eyes—and now she’s the same age Miranda was when she disappeared.

Ella has never let go of her sister. She can still feel Miranda’s presence, still hear her voice. She still talks to her. What holds Ella together is her love for her sister’s ten-year-old son and her work as a self-defense expert helping victims.

Ella is certain that Miranda was taken, and that one man is key to her disappearance: Jason Thorne. The tabloids report that a new link has been found connecting Miranda to this sadistic serial killer locked away in a psychiatric hospital. Ignoring warnings from the police and the disapproval of her parents, she seeks Thorne out. Ella will do whatever it takes to uncover the truth—no matter how dangerous…

Which of these do you find exciting and are more likely to get?

  1. I hope you receive Darling Rose Gold soon! That's one I would like to read too.

How Quickly She Disappears sounds like it will be intense. I love an Alaskan background. The Second Sister sounds good too! I think I'd want to read both. Haha

I hope you enjoy both of them! Happy Reading.

    1. Excellent news! I got Darling Rose Gold today! Just reading first few pages definitely shows the mother's sociopathic character. (From first chapter, a description of how the mother, Patty leaves the jail and everyone looks up to her, is nice to her and even take her advice! Typically in jail, child abusers and molesters don't really live long! She has been in jail for five years and yet she charmed everyone!)
