He had interrupted his billiard game to see this woman, but had not bothered to check on me? Even after that show of affection when we'd first sat down? I bit back my annoyance and smiled. "Oh?" I said. Victor hadn't mentioned knowing any women in Hanoi, especially not one who looked like Caroline. "You and Victor are acquainted?" Want More Information? Click Here

Bookish ( and not so bookish) thoughts #11

1. Really desire that I can give up on getting certain books, or that I will hear from publicists about specific books. Any tips on how to give up? 2. Really need to write reviews for a lot of books as well. Am scared to think of how many books I have to review. 3. For February I decided to read a lot of books that are less than 300 pages in hopes of catching up with some books and decreasing my TBR list. 4. Am really enjoying reading the current three reads, which are The Wartime Sisters by Lynda Cohen LOIGMAN, Forgotten Reflections by Young Im Lee, and The Road to URBINO by Roma TEARNE. 5. Am still continuing to play Royal Chaos which is a fun game, just wish I could get to next levels a lot more easily.

Waiting on Wednesday

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here, at Wishful Endings , to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they're books that have yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine . If you're continuing with WOW, feel free to link those up as well! Find out more here . While I got The Land Beyond The Sea by Sharon Kay Penman last week, I couldn't really decide which book to compare it to, either one of her old books, or perhaps another novel?  I decided to go with another novel,  and thus I decided to compare it to Shadow of the Swords by Kamran Pasha which also talks about this time period but is a bit more inaccurate I would say? (For one its determined that neither Richard nor Saladin ever met, and somehow I cannot imagine a christian of that particular era would fall in love with a Jewish woman. The marriage would be forbidden unless the J

First chapter First Paragraph Tuesdays Intros: The Wartime Sisters by Lynda Cohen LOIGMAN

First Chapter ~ First Paragraph Tuesday Intros, now hosted by Vicki at I'd Rather Be At The Beach , where bloggers post the first paragraph(s) of a book they are currently reading or planning to read sometime soon. Mainly because I am seeking somewhat shorter books and because I am pretty sure that a paperback release is happening, I decided to embark on reading The Wartime Sisters by Lynda Cohen LOIGMAN for Fresh Fiction website, which I am strongly enjoying, even though it's a WWII tale. What is different about it though is that it takes place in USA, and it doesn't have suffering or resistance or Europe. I understand the importance of WWII, but oh how often i wish that historical fiction could make use of other time periods besides WWII... Part One Ruth Brooklyn, New York ( 1919-1932) Ruth was three ears old when her sister was born. Like most firstborn children, Ruth assumed her younger sibling would be a miniature version of herself. It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn here at The Book Date . Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels or anything in those genres – join them. (From thebookdate.) At long last I will finally return overdue library books back to where they belong, and I was shocked to realize that my monkey checked out at least 40 books! BY a miracle, I was able to find them all too! My monkey also switched identity from t rex to a baby kitten. ( Before th

We celebrated Lunar New Year of sorts, especially when we had a dish from a Chinese restaurant, and steamed rice for my monkey. Today was nice weather so he, I and my mom went to a small farm near my house. Unfortunately they didn't have any cows, although the farm does include Turkey's, chickens, sheep, pigs and donkeys. My monkey was completely enthralled by chickens and loved running into the chicken house and watching the chickens come in, peck at rocks and then leave or peck one another. Bookwise, I am almost done with Run Me To Earth and perhaps a hundred pages or so away from finishing Stefans Promi

Still lack of progress, but its okay, slowly but surely I am finishing up the books I am reading right now... ( from page 57, because 56 has an illustration on it...) "Cyclone Mei might have been blind, but her ears were as sharp as any eyes. She flicked her fingers in different directions and the clang of metal reverberated through the air. All of Tiger Pengs projectiles were redirected back at him and his three companions. This was the Divine Flick, the technique she had started to learn shortly before her dishonorable departure from Peach Blossom Island. The counterattack bought her enough time to question Guo Jing further on

Bookish ( and not so bookish) thoughts #10

1. Today I had fun with my monkey being outside and building a railroad together for the trains. He also has started to pretend to be a cat and even tried to drink milk with his tongue instead of a straw. 2. I am still not finished with books that i have been reading for the last month or so...although in some I am halfway there, I suppose. 3. I am excited about Friday because it's Lunar New Year and there will be a little celebration planned, namely some food from a Chinese restaurant and my monkeys favorite desert: coconut cookies from a big store. 4. Am still having a lot of fun with Royal Chaos, so it kind of put in a reading cramp, but it's ok. 5. Kind of can't wait until I can start some new books. I even got a stack of books less than 300 pages. Maybe next I will read The Good Man by Ani Katz?

I can only imagine that readers will be confused when they are seeing the comparison for this week: why would you post a book that's going to come out in 2020 will compare it to a book that was published in late 18th century who no one has heard of? I think more than anything what motivated me to post this particular book is the summary: that the women in both novels are trying to have perfect lives, and perhaps they may or may not succeed. First Chapter ~ First Paragraph Tuesday Intros, now hosted by Vicki at I'd Rather Be At The Beach , where bloggers post the first paragraph(s) of a book they are currently reading or planning to read sometime soon. Well at least my post isn't late and I'm caught up with leaving replies to the comments. This week's book will be long, but I hope many will enjoy it: Here's When Christ and His Saints Slept by Sharon Kay Penman, which sounds really, really good :D Enjoy your week everyone! Prologue Chartres cathedral France January 1101 Stephen was never to forget his fifth birthday, for that was the day he lost his father. In actual fact, that wasn't precisely so. But childhood memories are not woven from facts alone, and that was how he would remember it. He'd come with his parents and two elder brothers to this great church of the Blessed Mary to hear a bishop preach about the Crusade. He didnt know who the bishop was, but his sermon was a l

So Royal Chaos continues to dominate my playtime, wreaking havoc on my reading life. On Sunday my monkey and I went to a train expo where he enjoyed himself and I ended up spending a lot of money on train stuff, (and I ended up losing a hopper coach...) we also ended up rid

See rules here: Sunday Post Meme " (From Caffeinated Reviewer blog) So I'm continuing to play Royal Chaos, which is an addictive game, and it eats away at my time. My monkey and I went to a playground today and he had a lot of fun playing with a four year old girl building sand castles out of rock and then filling up bucket with rocks and watching them slide down the slide. He also began to be sleep resistant and in some cases a bit ritualistic. Few days back I tried to read him some Russian fairy tales in Russian, and I couldn't get past the violence, although it was meant to be funny, I know. As I was reading the part about them eating a rabbit, I froze and just skipped over that. I did not realize I would be
