Romantic Adventure Book suitable for all ages
This book is about an unconventional 59-year old woman, Francesca, and her resourceful 10-year old granddaughter, Sarah, who share the adventures of a lifetime over the summer of 1947 in Lost Nation, Iowa. Together, they enchant barnstorming pilots, wow Clinton County Fair attendees, conquer the skies, confront an escaped arsonist, discover how Lost Nation got its intriguing name, and eventually demonstrate to one another the greatest truth about love.
Anyone who loves their grandmother will enjoy reading this Romance Fiction about family, friendship and strong women.
Characters:
Sarah is a nine/ten year old girl who lives in Iowa with her grandmother Francesca, and her parents who went to France when they figured out they won a contest. Sarah admires and loves her grandmother, Francesca a great deal. Both women are best described as plucky, resourceful, adventurous and spirited. I liked Francesca too and multiple times wished to see things from her point of view instead of Sarah's. There are other characters, as well as a romance that I wish I could have seen more of; that is, more dates and whatnot between two characters. The mother is two dimensional, baking in the kitchen all the time, while the father has a secret side.
Theme:
Enjoy life to the fullest.
Plot:
This is in first person narrative completely from Sarah's point of view. I saw some adventures they had, but couldn't really understand the adventures and it wasn't until the very end did I become engaged with the writing and the characters. Also, I really couldn't feel chemistry between the certain characters.

Opinion:
To an extent I did enjoy reading the book, but for some odd reason I felt disengaged from Francesca character or from their adventures. For me personally, the writing didn't have that shimmer and sparkle that would cause me to remember their adventures. While I liked and admired the characters, I think that choosing Sarah as a narrator of the book was not a good idea so to speak.
