Characters:
Main characters include Brax, a son of a local smith. In the story he is best described as rash, impulsive, loyal and sacrificing. Serene is a unicorn and one of the old beings who has chosen Brax as her Chosen One. She is patient, wise and all-seeing. There are also elves who are dedicated to the trees and have their own culture as well as resources, Brax's family and friends, both old and new and the dwarves as well as the numerous enemies.

Plot:
The story is written in third person narrative from Brax's point of view. I feel that a lot of the story was more tell than show and I also had a difficult time imagining the romance or connection that characters have shared. I also feel that the story is an old fashioned fantasy story of old (a little bit like Tolkien)

JEFF J. PETERS was born in South Africa and immigrated to the United States as a teenager, where he fell in love with all things fantasy. He obtained degrees in digital electronics and computer science and worked as an IT professional for more than twenty years. In 2014, he left his corporate position to focus full-time on writing. Cathadeus is his debut novel. He is currently working on the sequel.

Opinion:
I really liked the book cover because there was something beautiful and vast within it, and it somehow reminded me a bit of Lord of the Rings. Having said that, I honestly don't think I was the intended audience for the story. Personally for me the expectations for the story included well developed characters and a memorable repartee between the main characters. (I blame it on Dragon Age Origins videogame...)I also expected more psychology or for characters to develop more than they have, and for it not to be heavy with battles. Aside from those minor complaints I liked the premise because it definitely had promise in turning out an interesting story. For a reader seeking a good old fashioned fantasy novel replete with dwarves, elves, humans as well as some mixes who unite to defeat the evil, then look no further than Cathadeus.
