Summary:
Anne de Cheyne has a choice. She can play the dutiful daughter and allow her mother to sell her to a greasy English sheriff, or she can take control of her own life and find her own match. After a frightening run-in with her promised husband reveals a dark secret, she makes a desperate choice. Flight.
Aedan Donne needs easy money and no-questions-asked. When Milene de Cheyne offers him enough to pay all debts, requests complete silence, and pays half up front, just for a simple recovery, he can't believe his luck… until he meets his mark. Anne’s beauty and passion ignite something Aedan can’t ignore, even as she leaves him in the dust. Suddenly, he finds himself wanting to capture the runaway Highland lady for himself.
Characters:
The main characters include Anne and Aedan. Anne is very beautiful and is also impulsive and headstrong. She's a strong female characters who cares a lot for her younger sister and tries her best to get her friends out of the predicament they're stuck in. She is also fearless and gets her own way. Aedan also has his own goals and despite his grumbling and complaining, he is not the type that abandons those who need his help. Other characters include Anne's younger sister Elena who is also loyal to Anne and who is slightly, well, described as "deranged." There is also Aedan's younger sister, Anne's and Elena's mother who is very selfish, material and cold.
Theme:
Its possible to get choices and freedom.
Plot:
The book is written in third person narrative from Anne's and Aedan's points of view. I feel that beginning is a bit weak, but it could be because I didn't read the first book which made the beginning for me confused. However when Anne eventually runs away and Aedan goes after her, the story became more interesting for me. I also thought it had things in common with modern romance novels, aside from the fact that it took place in 1200s, and there aren't, well, sex scenes.
Author Information:
Opinion:
In my view its written in a similar way that romance novels of today are written, aside from the fact that the book is best described as sweet and there aren't sexual scenes. Instead its focused more on plot and character development and it also has a very strong female character. I do admit that I was confused by beginning, which rather means that one should read the prequel before reading this book, but afterwards the book tugged me in and I found it an enjoyable read. Its also short and sweet.
